No one can resist cake, not even me. Well, in the case of how to end my day trip in Vancouver, I chose pie over cake. Is that bad?
True Confections is a restaurant that only serves desserts. My buddy Carson and his pals took me to this shop to help round out my trip. Upon arrival, I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the place before being enamored by all the cake offerings on display.
But this place does more than just cake. There’s cheesecake, tarts and ice cream too! Well, it seems they do not serve ice cream alone, but if they did—and started making sodas and shakes too—I think it’s time to move to Vancouver!
The vanilla ice cream is literally to die for. I’ve rarely had ice cream that was made from ground vanilla. I think it’s a safe bet to say that this product is made in-house and buttermilk is used in creating this summertime treat. The way it complemented the pecan pie made for a perfect late-afternoon snack. I enjoyed the way the hot pie (technically it was warmed) and cold cream complemented each other.
I found the crust to be nice and buttery. The chocolate that was drizzled on top was not too strong; it tasted just right to sate my taste buds. What made this meal was in how decadent the pecans were. I’ve had pecan pie where it was just too sickeningly sweet and strong. The pie’s flavour was just right. It made me want to order more and take some cake (or more pie) home.
I should’ve done that. The outlet I went to was kind of out of the way, but thankfully there’s a Vancouver Downtown store on Denman Street. I can hit up that place on my next trip so I can continue my love affair with their products before I can render a final verdict.
