Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one. When am I going to have some time, samosa?

If you hurry on down to the Goldstream Flea Market, you’ll meet a very unusual vendor. She’s not unusual for her taste in clothes or for her hair but she is unique for the food she serves. She deals in Samosas. These little curried pastry puffs were the creation of her husband.

I must admit that I’m very eager when it comes to sampling something made in one’s own kitchen. When these homemakers cooks for others–be they customers or invited guests–it’s only natural for them to be at their culinary best. There is a need to leave a lasting impression and hopefully a favourable one.

Did they impress me? I have to say yes. I purchased a chicken and vegetable samosa which were tagged at $2 each, but when considering what’s packed in, they could’ve charged $3. I wanted a beef one, but they were sold out by the time I visited their table.

The chicken samosa was delicious. It had the right amount of tender flakiness and spiciness to numb my tongue. I savoured the moment. The veggie one was a bit of a let down. There was too much potato and that might be absorbing the effectiveness of the chutney. Each bite was different.

But even with the disappointing veggie samosa, I’ll be buying more of their folded pastries to pack to work. I think I need a bigger lunch box.
