ES: Every once in a while, all I want is a dog. It just has to be big and warm. As much as I would love to have a pet around the house to play with, I’m referring to the hot dog. When The Hot Dog Guys at Tillicum didn’t live up to all my expectations for themed dawgs, thankfully Bobadog Bubble Tea & Hot Dogs did not disappoint! I even had a Godzilla sized appetite….

DK: While Ed was hoping Bobadog would erase bad memories of lesser dogs, I wasn’t looking for much. I pass by Bobadog multiple times a week, and would have been fine never going in. But when a friend is on a hot dog mission, by God, you stand beside him.
ES: Maybe I should move, but even then, there’s competition between what defines the tastes of a city. Portland has those woes, Chicago is well-defined and Seattle, I’ve had my say. No matter where in the country one lives, to recreate the is fairly easy in a proper kitchen!
As for hot dog carts, that’s another story. Key to making these sausages success is with where the meat is sourced (what I had here doesn’t taste grocery grade), and if they are boiled or grilled. Had my order been grilled, I’d say Gojira would highly approve! A bit of charring and crispiness is required, but it was soft and crispy thanks to the piles of nori seaweed on top. What I tasted was satisfying, but it needed sriracha.

DK: I went with the Saigon Phenom: a pork hot dog with chilli peanut sauce, carrots, and cucumber. The chilli sauce is the sweet stuff you find loitering on shelves of your local grocery chain. The sweetness of the sauce, and the bun, will probably appeal to a younger crowd. I’d prefer a real banh mi to these simulacra, but this was an ok dog. As Ed can attest to: you can certainly do a lot worse.
