Honestly, I think I’ve given up on trying to hit Bayou on 1st, located at Pike Place Market. Everytime I walk by there in the early morning, they are closed! Are they ever open on time, like 8am sharp? They are the closest place I can reach (before relying on Metro to hit the International district) to sate my crawfish craving whenever I’m in Seattle for a convention. One day, I will find it open, or else I’ll have to keep walking northwards to another inspired eatery (located inside Caffé Lieto), for other southern inspired fixins.

Lunns Bakery Has Pumpkin Pie! And its Delish

My oh my, Lunn’s Pastries has pie, and it’s pumpkin to boot! Well, I’ve been told that they make the best pumpkin on this side of the 42nd parallel. Well, technically their coordinates are more like 48 degrees and 39.2′ North, and its well worth the trip to this seaside town to eat a pie that tasted like it came fresh from the patch.

E: Try as we might for two years along with  James’ ability to put ideas off for the last minute,  at long last we arrived at Lunn’s in Sidney! I thought we’d have to become senior citizens by the time we’d arrive in this popular dining spot.

Is it fate? or simply because James is on vacation? I think it’s the task of getting him to leave the cozy atmosphere of Langford to enter into another township.

A Skinny on a Hula Theme. Da Kine Coffee Shop

E: After a short walk to find where Victoria’s newest street truck vendor is parked, James and I chanced upon Da Kine Coffee Shop, a relatively new operation. The building is a small house with a lot of personality.

Unfortunately, I could not say the same about its soup of the day, chicken and chickpea. For some odd reason, it tasted like one of my mom’s old country Chinese soup recipes. The taste was muddled with a lot of earthy plant like textures than that of chicken soup. Good or bad, the chicken and chickpea did live up to its name: the pea-soup taste was strong.

Getting on "Top" of Seattle’s Finest?

I’ve been to Portland and had their best confectionery delight. In my opinion, the variety Voodoo Doughnuts offers is beyond compare. In Seattle, Top Pot is considered the best of Seattle because of its many endorsements. I had to challenge this claim.

I’ve had plenty of doughnuts from at least four different countries (two being from Asia) to know parts of what’s available. Even Homer might be eying me with envy, but I digress. In what I tasted early morning, when the product is at its freshest. I can certainly say they do rank up there in satisfaction. The quality can certainly be tasted.

Murchie’s: More Than Just Tea

E: On our stroll down Government Street on a chilly December, two words jumped at me—Ginger and Chocolate—and James and I soon found ourselves inside Murchie’s. I thought the candy goodness could be found at the deli side of the operation, hopefully available for sampling. Sadly, they were not at the time.
